Preserving and protecting the Arts and Crafts masterpiece that is the William R. Thorsen House has been Thomas Saxby’s mission for decades. Designed by Greene and Greene Architects, the house is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a City of Berkeley Landmark.
In 2007, Thomas completed an extensive Historic Structures Report that details necessary seismic strengthening, building code and accessibility improvements, interior repairs and minor alterations, exterior restoration, building systems upgrades and site improvements as well as conservation recommendations for the treatment of historic fabric. The report also includes a detailed cost plan outlining the proposed project budget. In 2008, Thomas oversaw the sensitive design and installation of a concealed fire sprinkler system throughout the building and in 2016, he oversaw the structural repair/restoration work on the severely deteriorated exterior balcony connecting the main house to the garage.
